The Top End Barra Series

The 2016 Top End Barra Series shall consist of six rounds of barramundi fishing in various locations across the Top End. Competitor’s register their best five barramundi caught over the allocated weekends.

The Basics

Stephen Pennington

The Top End Barra Series competition is kept simple and there is no catering, big functions or start and ending ceremonies.

The basic concept of TEBS is that over the 6 Rounds competitors’ fish for barramundi from 6am Saturday morning till 6pm Sunday afternoon using lures, soft plastics or flies. At the end of the weekend competitors email in their best 5 barra over 50cm to us and then we will collate them all. Scoring is on a points system similar to that used in the Barra Classic which rewards bigger fish. The competitor at the end of each round with the highest score is the winner.

Other fish species can also be entered each round for mystery fish prizes. These mystery sizes or species are determined by the organisers prior to each round.

Get out there, get social and enjoy catching barra. Pretty Simple.

Only scores from 5 rounds are used to calculate the overall winner. If you do fish all 6 rounds and score, the lowest scoring round will be dropped.

The competition is for individual anglers.

Shady & Mary River Bridge System:  5th to 6th March
Daly River:  7th to 8th May
Bynoe Harbour:  4th to 5th June
Billabongs:  13th to 14th August
Adelaide River Mouth:  10th to 11th September
Darwin Harbour:  1st to 2nd October

Round 1 will be held at Shady Camp in the run off on the 5th and 6th of March where competitors will join the masses in the search of trolling up big horses on the neap tides. The Mary River Bridge system is included in this Round.

Round 1 NOTES: The run off can be fickle and in the unlikely event that the Arnhem Highway is flooded during this round or that there is not enough water to launch safely this round will be transferred to the Daly. If the Daly is flooded this round will become a wildcard round where people will be free to fish wherever they are able. The decision starts and ends with the organisers and the decision will be made one week prior to the event if possible. Shady is a busy place, therefore Mary Bridge Lagoon has been added for people who want to be a part of the competition but don’t want to join the masses at Chambers Bay.

Round 2 will be held on the Daly River over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of May

Round 3 will see the return of the Bynoe Harbour Round over the weekend of the 4th and 5th of June.

Round 4 will be the Billabong Round and is to be held over the weekend of the 13th and 14th of August.

Round 5 will see us back at the Mouth of the Adelaide River on the 10th and 11th September.

Round 6 will be the Darwin Harbour Round. This round of TEBS usually decides the overall winner of the Series.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What you get when you enter” tab_id=”1447932131623-2f972002-63ec”][vc_column_text]A competition that will put you up against others to see who will be crowned “The 2016 Top End Barra Series Champion Angler”

Get in Touch[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”The Rules” tab_id=”1447932622232-47a2092f-6bd8″][vc_column_text]Anglers must not engage in behaviour which brings the Top End Barra Series into disrepute. This shall include anti social, unsafe or aggressive behaviour or taking more than the prescribed local bag limit. Disqualification will occur in these instances with the decision of the event organisers being final. A disqualified angler and/or team will not be entitled to reimbursement of monies in any form from the Top End Barra Series.

  1. Fishing will start at 6am on the Saturday of the round and finish at 6pm on Sunday night of the Round.
  2.  Fish can be caught by casting or trolling lures, soft plastics or by fly fishing. No bait fishing is allowed. There is no restriction on leader size or length. You can use either barbed or barbless hooks.
  3. Only registered series competitors can fish for prizes each round. Other people may come out and fish with their friends who are competitors however they will not be recognized as part of the competition for scoring purposes. Honesty is the key to making this a successful competition, so make sure you only count your own fish for scoring.
  4. A scoring card will be emailed out at around 7:30am on the Friday morning before the event. Place this logo next to the brag mat or measurement sticker when taking a photo. If for some reason you do not receive or cannot print the score card use the Saturday or Sunday paper of the Round in each photo placed next to your brag mat.
  5. Measure fish on a brag mat or the TEBS measurement sticker. Make sure the mouth of the fish is closed.  Photograph the fish and round scoring card on the measure device provided or on a brag mat.
  6. Email photographs of your best 5 barra caught over the weekend sized from 50cm. Once you have caught your 5 eligible fish you may then upsize your scoring fish by dropping off your smallest and adding the larger one to the five you send in.
  7. Email the photos of your best five fish by 10am on the Monday after each round to the email address which will be provided for 2016. There is no exception to this rule.
  8. The organizers will have the final decision on the measurement of the fish after viewing photos. Ensure that your cameras are set up with the correct dates and that each photo is date stamped correctly.
  9. Follow NT Legal size limits for keeping fish and respect bag limits. Make sure you are aware of the bag limits as they differ in a few places.
